“A Tribute to JoAnn Falletta” 2020 Spring Gala Cancelled

After much deliberation, the VSS Board of Directors has officially cancelled the 2020 Gala. Initially, it was postponed in hopes that we would be able to host a farewell event for JoAnn Falletta in the summer or early fall. However, due to ongoing and evolving health concerns, scheduling conflicts, and financial uncertainty, we are unable to reschedule for this year.

Your support of the VSO is needed now more than ever. You can help by making a donation in honor of JoAnn Falletta using the link below, by purchasing a concert subscription at www.virginiasymphony.com, by following the VSS and VSO on Facebook, and by spreading the word about the music, messages, and education resources created by our VSO musicians.

We miss you and look forward to seeing you soon!

“An Evening on Broadway” 2019 Gala Entertains, Inspires Support for the VSO

The Virginia Symphony Society’s 2019 gala benefit for the Virginia Symphony, recognized the tremendous contributions of the Gala Honoree, Patrick McDermott, as well as Honorary Chairs, Bob and Diane Petterson.

In his remarks, Patrick emphasized his passion for the mission of the VSO and the importance of a servant-minded spirit. We thank Patrick for his positive support and for all of his efforts on behalf of the VSO.

Actress and Yorktown native, Tiffany Haas, famous for her role as Glinda in the Broadway show Wicked, mesmerized guests with lively renditions of Broadway tunes. Tiffany was accompanied by talented pianist Bart Keubler.

Local high school orchestra students provided live music during the cocktail hour and were recognized at the dinner. A silent auction and live auction items included a trip to New York City with tickets to Broadway shows, a wine-tasting experience, and a voice lesson with Tiffany Haas – raising nearly $30,000 for the VSO in addition to sponsorships, ticket sales, and individual gifts.

Over the years, proceeds from VSS galas have totaled over $250,000 – providing direct support for VSO led musical experiences in our region – including local concert programming and new music education programs led by professional VSO musicians in our schools.

Auctioneer and Gala Committee Thank You

Special thanks to our 2019 Auctioneer team of Rick & Lara Overy of Compass Wealth Strategies and Aaron Williams of Williams Landscape & Design whose continued efforts helped us raise thousands of dollars to support music outreach in our community.

A big thank you also goes out to the 2019 Gala Planning Committee for all of the time and volunteer hours spent making the night so special. From coordinating with musicians, menu planning, marketing, ticketing, finance, auction planning and more – this team did an outstanding job attending to every detail.

We thank you and appreciate you for all you do!
